My name is Amanda Barbour, and I am in my 7th year of teaching at Meadowlawn Elementary; of Kentwood Public Schools. Through my studies at Western Michigan University, I have earned a Bachelor's Degree, and also continue my education towards a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership.
Professionally, I participate as a school improvement team member, and social studies committee member on both District and County levels. Separate from Social Studies development, I am a Common Core District committee member. Additionally, I am a Process Champion for Capturing Kids Hearts, and was awarded Office Max's Outstanding Teacher Award in 2008.
Personally, teaching has always been a passion for me as I make it a point to introduce new and challenging subject matter to elevate students beyond expectations. I whole-heartedly believe the following quotation: "Success is finding your passion, and living it every day".
Last summer I married my husband, Nick, who is a Police Officer for the city of Cedar Springs. Nick and I share a love of children and he sometimes volunteers his time, in uniform, to visit my classroom. During his visits, he teaches my students about safety, ethics, daily life in his career, and finishes with reading a story to my class.
In my spare time, I teach cardiovascular/strength training at a local fitness center, and spend time with my family and loved ones.
